Management team
Danny Roberts
Director & Engineering Geologist
Danny is an experienced Engineering Geologist with a hands on approach to ground investigation and project delivery. He works closely with clients from initial enquiry through to completion, taking responsibility for project scoping, pricing, site supervision and reporting.
With over a decade of industry experience, Danny has delivered Phase I and Phase II ground investigations, remediation strategies and verification reports across a wide range of sectors, including residential and commercial developments, high rise buildings, rail infrastructure and quarrying projects. His expertise also extends to regulatory liaison and the management of remedial works, ensuring projects meet planning and compliance requirements efficiently.
Danny holds a BSc (Hons) in Geology from the University of Liverpool and an MSc in Mining Geology from the Camborne School of Mines. He is a Fellow of the Geological Society of London and maintains strong technical competence through ongoing professional training. Known for his practical problem solving skills and on site experience, Danny brings a pragmatic and client focused approach to every project.
Alex Preston
Director & Engineering Geologist
Alex Preston has a strong background in geo-environmental and geotechnical consultancy and nearly a decade of experience delivering complex development projects across the UK. A Master’s graduate in Geology from the University of Liverpool, Alex combines sound technical expertise with a practical, solutions focused approach to managing ground risk and supporting land development.
Alex began his career in 2017 and progressed rapidly through technical and leadership roles, gaining extensive experience in taking projects from early stage due diligence through to remediation delivery and regulatory sign off. His portfolio spans Greenfield and brownfield developments, including former collieries, landfills, industrial sites, quarries, gas works and major infrastructure schemes.
He has led and managed investigations on challenging sites with significant geotechnical and geo-environmental constraints, often requiring close collaboration with regulators, clients and multidisciplinary teams. Alex’s experience includes supporting large commercial, logistics, highways and aviation developments across England, Wales and Scotland, including projects delivered within live operational environments such as active airfields and motorways.
Known for his clear communication, robust reporting and ability to navigate complex regulatory frameworks, Alex helps clients unlock development opportunities safely, efficiently and compliantly.

The Ground Risk team are committed to sustainability throughout our working process. At every stage of the work, we take thorough care to meet the UK Government’s sustainability requirements. This includes best practice waste management and proper surveying to minimise wildlife disturbance during investigations.
Under the Environmental Act 2021, businesses must meet strict requirements for waste reduction and resource efficiency. As we operate in the UK, we will continue to work towards the legislation-set sustainability targets as required.
