Carnaig Substation

Ground Risk carried out the full intrusive ground investigation for the 400 kV Carnaig Substation to be developed by Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN).

Introduction

The investigation was designed and delivered to support heavy electrical plant foundations, major reinforced concrete structures, access roads and hardstandings associated with high voltage transmission infrastructure.

Results

A range of intrusive techniques were employed, including dynamic sampling, rotary drilling, trial pitting and peat probing, to robustly characterise ground conditions. The resulting dataset provided a reliable basis for detailed foundation, earthworks and infrastructure design for this nationally significant energy asset.
